Teddington Theatre Club is bringing The Kitchen Sink to Hampton Hill Theatre from September 27, the first amateur production of this award-winning comedy outside London
Hampton Hill Theatre will be playing host to Teddington Theatre Club for the week of September 27 – October 3, as they put on a show that promises to be all that – and the kitchen sink!
The Kitchen Sink, a gentle comedy built around small lives, won author Tom Wells both the George Devine Award for Most Promising Playwright and the then-new Simon Gray Award back in 2012.
A slightly bizarre family (what other kind is there?) faces fading fortunes in the seaside resort of Withernsea, in Yorkshire – “a very good place to come from. Cos it’s knackered and funny and it’s falling in the sea.”
Father Martin clings to his decaying milk float, while wife Kath experiments with Christmas Day Sushi in between shifts as a dinner lady. Son Billy dreams about art school and worships Dolly Parton, while sister Sophie (pictured) dreams of teaching jiu-jitsu – and Billy's friend Pete just dreams about Sophie.
It is being directed by Tony Medawar, previously known for his work as part of OHADS.
