Mike and the mechanics
Mike and the Mechanics are among the head line acts performing during the Epsom Live! 2013 Summer series of music nights at Epsom Downs Racecourse this July
The band, performing at Epsom on July 18, reached massive global success with a number of albums including 1995’s ‘Beggar on a Beach of Gold’ which continued to cement the band’s reputation as one of the most respected contemporary melodic rock bands.
Bananarama
In 2010 a new generation of the band was unleashed and features two new faces, the successful R & B act of the 90’s, Andrew Roachford, who shares the vocal duties with Tim Howar, who formed and toured with Vantramp, supporting the likes of Rod Stewart and Paulo Nuttini.
As part of their 30th anniversary and after recognition in the Guinness Book of World Records as the most successful female band worldwide with the most chart singles, Bananarama will be kicking off the Epsom Live! Series when they perform on July 4. All their chart singles were international hits, four hitting the US billboard Top 10 including a No. 1 with ‘Venus’.
The now solo artist, Tony Hadley, who was lead singer of Spandau Ballet, will play at Epsom on July 11. Over the years Hadley has earned the accolade of being one of pop music’s greatest vocalists. Many will remember his prominent vocal contribution to the Band Aid UK charity single, ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas.’ Last year Hadley released his new album and entertained crowds at venues across the UK.
The final night of the series on July 25 will see the gifted and talented next generation of great British jazz musicians, the National Youth Jazz Orchestra, (NYJO) perform at the racecourse. The NYJO are world-famous as a glittering showcase for the country’s best musicians, founded by Music Director Bill Ashton OBE in 1965. Many established jazz stars have risen through its ranks.
