If, like me, you feel that there is no better way to pass an evening than in heated, trivia-based competition among friends, beer casks and pub grub, then head to any one of these fantastic Surrey pubs for a quiz night. Most offer a sizeable cash-prize, and entry fees range from free to only £2. Many of the pubs mentioned below also give a prize for the wittiest team name, so I thought it only right to share a compilation of my personal favourites:

The Anchor
161 Lower Road, Surrey, KT23 4AHJoin The Anchor for their charity quiz night, which is held every Tuesday. This historical Grade II listed inn dates from the 15th century. Low beamed ceilings, wooden floors, exposed brickwork and inglenook with a real fire burning in the winter give the pub a very traditional and homely feel.

The Anglers
Manor Road, Surrey, KT12 2PFThe quiz consists of 4 rounds; usually music, pictures, general knowledge and films. Teams can consist of up to 6 members and it is 50p per team member per round. There is a cash prize for the highest scoring team in each round and a further cash prize for the overall quiz winners.

The Bat and Ball
Farnham, Surrey, GU104SAEvery Tuesday night at 8.30pm the Bat and Ball hold their popular Charity Jackpot General Knowledge Quiz hosted by either Quizmaster-Liz or Quizmaster-Claire. With your team, the aim is to have a fun (and sometimes challenging) evening with a little bit of banter with the Quizmaster and nearby teams over drinks and some great food.
Entry is £1 with proceeds going to their in-house charity The Hedgehogs, helping local people in need.
