Our premises comprises three buildings (one main school, offices art facilities and the most glorious summer gardens and miniature theatre, and it’s own proscenium arches theatre in Royal Ascot, the diversity of talent in this hot-house of gifted children, and the extraordinary range of trips and clubs on offer, is unique. From World Champ standard tap dancers to Pas de Deux ballet, trips to the Royal Court and the National, and to New York, and a choice of Specialisms to enable young film makers as well as actors and dancers - the breadth and depth of Redroofs School is further reaching than its unassuming Berkshire base, to which internationals are flying in via Heathrow and UK children are hosted in “theatre digs for kids".
While the main school is rooted in the UK system of 10 GCSE’s followed by Sixth form, there is ample breadth for all academic abilities with a significant programme for Gifted and Talented dancers, a superb BTEC Level 3 Sixth form, opportunity to add A levels and a programme for aspiring teachers to qualify through Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing. Our part time school offers a huge range of weekly classes alongside Musical Theatre Workshops, and Holiday Courses for local children.
This is a family school, with something here for even the most individual, and it is a far cry from traditional without even a nod to outdated theatre schools. Our small class sizes (averaging 12-15 students) and unique trip programme (this year including the opportunity to visit and take Acting classes in Shakespeare's Verona and a Sixth form visit to Broadway) demonstrates our commitment to a special and enlightening arts-inspiration alongside a sound Key Stage academic provision.
Here children can work professionally alongside their education and can access schoolwork remotely to work through with their on set tutors. A weekly calendar ensures that the current 20% of pupils working in theatre can be supported with schoolwork while treading the boards of the West End or touring circuits or voice studio.
With enormous emphasis on celebrating the individuality of each student this is an exciting school with much to commend it for any child with an orientation towards art in its many forms. Not all children will wish to access the School's industry contacts - many are here to enjoy an alternative and contemporary learning and use this as a journey through education towards an independent entrepreneurial lifestyle.
Family is central to the continued success of Redroofs School for the Performing Arts and while local children access the Saturday Schools and holiday courses, there is so much more to this community than this.
Here is a very unique and purposeful education for the truly independent parent.
Our full time school audition process, while selective, is in place to ensure a two way transparency, that you have the opportunity to ask questions and to experience the school first hand before joining the school for the happiest days. "If a child is happy he will learn.” The Part Time School does not require audition.
