In her quest to live like a queen, Emily Horton turns to an old friend for inspiration and advice
When we decided to produce a celebratory issue to mark the Queen’s 90th birthday, I knew there was only one person to turn to for interiors advice: old family friend Janet Davie, a designer who has long specialised in creating vintage and period homes, including my own.
Though based in rural Worcestershire, Janet works all over the UK, as well as internationally, with two current projects in London. With more than 30 years’ experience, she certainly knows where to look for exclusive items that can transform your home all by themselves.
Here she suggests some of her current favourites from a selection of very salubrious suppliers.

The Buckingham Orchid
Moorcroft, one of the few independent Staffordshire potteries, has been producing beautiful artworks at its celebrated design studio for more than 100 years. In honour of Her Majesty’s 90th, it has created a special vase featuring the white helleborine orchids, which made up the Queen’s bridal bouquet in 1947, and have also been recently found growing in the grounds of Buckingham Palace. Valued at £585, we have one to give away. You can enter the competition online by clicking here; competition closes May 31. T&Cs apply.
