The home rentals market is growing like never before. Whether you live in a six bedroom house or a smaller flat, there are multiple benefits to renting your property out during peak holiday seasons. High-end home rental site Veeve’s top hosts can make up to £1,000 a week by maximising rental opportunities. Read on for 10 tips that will help turn your house into a rental property...
1. Think like a guest
Declutter and provide plenty of space and coathangers for your guests to store their belongings and settle in for their stay. You could set up dedicated hanging rails - Ikea does good, discrete ones - if you don’t have enough wardrobe space.
2. Is everything working?
Ensure that your property is in perfect condition and that all your appliances and entertainment systems are in excellent working order. A little guide to using anything complicated (including passwords) is always welcome.
3. Make them feel at home
Your guests have probably chosen home rental over a hotel. Help them to feel at home by making the space as welcoming as possible. Some thoughtful books for example or a selection of recent lifestyle magazines help to make a home feel less anonymous.
4. Set the mood
Ensure that your home smells beautiful. Room sprays and scented sticks are longer lasting and safer than scented candles.
5. Brighten the space
Fresh spring flowers such as daffodils or tulips are cheap and cheerful and really make a difference to that all-important first impression.
6. Hygge it up
Protect delicate or pale furniture with a throw or a sheepskin rug - again, Ikea sells beautiful, soft, cream ones that are not expensive - for that desired nordic touch.
7. Remove your valuables
Use coloured tape to shut off kitchen or bathroom cupboards that you don’t want people to use. Don’t tempt fate; thefts are rare but jewellery and other high-value or sentimental items should not be left in the property.
8. Provide the basics
Leave out a welcome pack of indispensable food and drink items such as coffee, tea, salt & pepper, garlic and olive oil so that your guest don’t have to rifle through your cupboards to find the basics.
9. Recommend the hotspots
There are places in your area that you would hate your guests to miss - a wonderful restaurant or a farmers’ market for example - leave a little guide to the area on the kitchen table.
10. Finishing touches
Finally, you could leave a handwritten note and a gift for them to enjoy when they arrive!
