Guide to transforming your home this Christmas
If you’re looking to upscale your decorations and make a real impact this festive season, it might be time to call in an expert. Miranda Jessop speaks to Candy Elton from The Christmas Decorators, Weybridge, who plans for Christmas all year round.
The logistics
Our first step is to help clients decide which style of decorations they would like and where to place them. The biggest dilemmas are usually where to position the all-important tree and, if there are multiple decorations, whether they should all match. There’s the option for clients to buy or rent decorations, and once the scheme is agreed upon, we’ll set a date for installation. The magic starts on the day the team arrives. Once Christmas is over, the team collects all the decorations and stores them away for the following year.
Most popular
Garlands are very popular as they are so versatile and can be wrapped around front doors, staircases and fireplaces. A garland arranged across a mantelpiece, lit with warm white lights and dressed with baubles, ribbons, dried fruit and cinnamon sticks, can completely transform a room.
Real tree or faux?
Faux trees have a good shape with evenly spaced lights and obviously don’t drop their needles. However, a real tree evokes those true feelings of Christmas. One option is faux indoors and a real tree in the garden or by the front door.
Christmas wreaths and props
Our team can help clients create their own bespoke wreaths, and, for added wow factor, we can source a variety of props from artificial snow to penguins, deer and Christmas nutcrackers.
Outdoor lighting
Simple roofline lighting looks stunning and can be extended to a whole scheme, including shrubbery, trees and lawns. Choose between simple bulb lighting or twinkling icicle lights.
Biggest challenge yet
A request to put thirty Christmas trees on the roof of a building. The planning for this included crane hire, tonnes of ballast and a rigorous plan for securing the trees in case of adverse weather.
Trends for 2023
The trend for festive doorscapes is very much here to stay, and in terms of colour, burgundy and deep reds are set to be firm favourites this year, along with earthy tones.
Best thing about being a Christmas decorator
