Open Farm Sunday on June 7 sees more than 300 farmers nationwide open their gates to the public. Craft and Country blogger Emma Pritchard goes in search of fresh produce
Ever wondered what it would be like to drive a tractor, milk a cow, or grow fruit for a living? Well, now’s your chance to find out. Now in its ninth year, Open Farm Sunday has become quite an event, with more than 300 farmers, nationwide, opening their gates to the public and giving them the opportunity to see what it is exactly they do.
On Sunday, June 7 you can head to Tuesley Farm in Godalming for a guided tour of some of their 469 acres. They're a fruit farm specialising in summer berries, so there’ll hopefully be a juicy strawberry or blueberry ripe for the tasting.
Or if you're in Frensham, why not visit Pierrepont Farm, where you can see a herd of more than 100 Pedigree Jerseys in action in the automatic milking parlour. There’ll also be a number of food and craft stalls on site, plus access to the newly established Frensham Brewery.
With so many of us becoming distanced from the food we eat, it’s even more important than ever to see first-hand where it comes from, and appreciate the importance British agriculture has for us all.
Open Farm Sunday is organised by LEAF (Linking Environment and Farming) and takes place on June 7. Check online to find a participating farm near you.
