Distance: Around 50-60 miles
Difficulty: Some steep sections – 8 out of 10
Cafes: Peaslake café, Tanhouse Farm Shop (Newdigate) and Denbies Wine Estate (Dorking)
I cycle with the Kingston Wheelers and my favourite ride is to Newdigate and Dorking. It starts and ends in Kingston and goes through Esher, Cobham, Ripley, Send, West Clandon, East Clandon, Shere, Peaslake, Holmbury St Mary, Forest Green, Ockley, Newdigate, Holmwood, Dorking, Juniper/Box Hill, Headley, Tadworth, Epsom and Chessington.
A long route, it takes around five to six hours. There are some good hills, which mean painful climbing, but the best views and amazing downhill speeds of 40-50mph.
The view I love most is very close to Denbies Wine Estate, which is also my favourite café. You are spoilt for choice here with lovely English breakfasts, bagels and sandwiches and of course the thing that cyclists like most – cake! Other good spots to stop for refuelling are the café in Peaslake which offers great cheese rolls and tea at a good value price and Tanhouse Farm Shop in Newdigate.
