Brooklands 4d
Brooklands brought to life as a NEW 4D Theatre opens!
A new multi-sensory, 4D theatre allowing visitors an incredible chance to experience the dynamics of racing around a pre-war circuit at over 100mph opens on the 22nd August at Brooklands Museum.
Inside the restored Balloon Hangar at the Museum in Weybridge, Surrey, the new experience links the heyday of British motorsport at Brooklands with a state-of-the-art four-dimensional theatre.
Visitors will strap themselves into their seats in the specially-converted auditorium and – with the help of period-style 3D goggles – enjoy a ‘race’ in the 24 litre Napier-Railton, as it was driven by John Cobb in the 1930s around the banked circuit. ‘Dicing’ with the Napier-Railton will be two other great pre-War Brooklands racing cars (the Delage DH Land Speed Record car and the Pacey-Hassan Special), and all the while visitors will experience the bumps of the track, the sounds of the engines and even the smell of oil, as they are immersed in this glamorous era.
This is the closest anybody can now get to “driving” around the original Brooklands Race Track at speed. The Museum has worked with Metropolis Entertainment to develop the experience, which was filmed at Brooklands with the action sequences staged at Montlhéry, just outside Paris, which is the closest remaining banked circuit to Brooklands and one of only two venues outside the UK where the car competed in period.
Re-enactors in period dress playing spectators, mechanics and officials, with further static cars and props from the 1920s and ‘30s, adding realism to the drama and pit sequences, which were filmed in the Motoring Village and Race Bays at the Museum.
The 4D Theatre Napier-Railton Race Experience is open every day from 22nd August and tickets can be bought on site: Special launch price for August: Adults £4, Children £2From September 1st: Adults £5, Children £3. Height and other restrictions to this ride apply.
