Loseley House which re-opens this month after major roof repairs, is to host the summer exhibition of the Surrey Sculpture Society
As one of our historic houses suffers tragedy beyond its control, another is winning the endless battle of repair and renewal that faces any listed building.
The wonderful 16th century Loseley House inadvertently made the national headlines when it came to the rescue of Caroline Riccio and Alastair McCrea who were due to get married at Clandon Park shortly after the fire that ravaged the building. The bride and groom, despite the odds being stacked against them, still managed to have a day to remember with a service in Loseley’s Great Hall and reception in its 17th century Tithe Barn.
A matter of weeks later, Loseley itself was celebrating when it held its ‘Topping Out Ceremony’ to mark the end of the works to replace the whole of the roof – this means it should be another 100 years before it needs doing again.
Loseley is also hosting the annual Surrey Sculpture Society exhibition that begins at the end of the month, with a vast array of pieces sculpted from materials of every sort, all for sale and arranged along its winding trails. Another reason to visit, and savour its glorious setting.
The Surrey Sculpture Society Summer Exhibition is at Loseley House June 30 – July 27
