June 5 is BBC Music Day, a tribute to music across genres, generations and the globe. Shane Thomas is a young Surrey musician who has been invited to produce a piece of music for the celebrations
With live performances across the country and musical programmes taking over BBC radio and TV, this year's BBC Music Day promises to be as inspiring as ever, with appearances and ambassadors from across the sonic spectrum.
Sir Tom Jones, one of the celebration's many celebrity ambassadors, feels that the support the BBC gives to creators of new music is "key to a healthy scene, one that continues to grow and encourage musicianship of all kinds. The music that influenced and instructed me when I was young I heard almost entirely through the BBC."
One such young creator is Woking's Shane Thomas, perhaps the youngest musician to ever be signed to a major music label. Hailed as Britain's Mozart, he first performed to a celebrity audience at age 7, and won the Young Composer award at 11 - and will be supplied with a 48-piece orchestra to perform an original composition for BBC Music Day, at a 700-seat venue.
He'll also be performing at The New Victoria Theatre in his hometown of Woking on June 27, alongside special guests in An Evening With Shane Thomas.
