A 22-year-old woman was hit in the face by a stranger on her way to work.
The victim was walking along Walnut Tree Close sometime between 8.15am and 8.30am on Tuesday, 26 August.
She was just going past the railway bridge, on the side of the road with the Post Office sorting depot, when she stepped aside for a man who was walking towards her.
The suspect stepped in the same direction and as he did so the pedestrian felt her arm being punched.
The woman looked up and saw the man shouting angrily at her and he then hit her in the face with his arm.
The suspect is described as a white man, around 5ft 10” tall and of a medium build. He had short fair hair and a blonde straggly beard. He was wearing blue jeans and was carrying what is believed to be an orange Sainsbury's carrier bag.
The victim was wearing a royal blue anorak with the hood up, a dark rucksack on her back and big green headphones. After the incident she pulled her hood down.
"This was a totally unprovoked assault in broad daylight on a woman who was just going about her everyday business making her way to work" said PC Julian Crabbe.
"I'm hoping as it would have been busy in the vicinity with other members of the public using the same route that someone will be able to provide details which could help us locate and bring this offender to justice. It is simply unacceptable that such violence is on our streets and residents and workers alike should be allowed to travel in safety.”
