Police have confirmed that Viktoras Bruzas, whom officers wanted to locate in connection with a double murder in Fetcham, has been arrested.
Mr Bruzas, 38, and the vehicle he was travelling in, a black Mercedes, were stopped by officers in Oxshott shortly after 6pm yesterday (Thursday, 27 November).
He has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in police custody.
The arrest comes after Surrey Police was called to a property on The Copse at around 12.30am this morning after two people were assaulted and later pronounced dead.
It is believed they died from stab wounds. A weapon that was recovered near the scene is being forensically examined.
Although formal identification has not yet taken place, the victims are believed to be Patrick and Gillian Kettyle, a married couple who lived at the property.
Detective Chief Inspector Mark Preston, from the Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team, said: “This is a tragic incident which has shaken the close community in Fetcham. I hope the arrest this evening goes some way to reassure the public that we have been relentless in our efforts during this fast-moving and on-going investigation.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who assisted with the search of Viktoras Bruzas including members of the public and the media.”
Another man in his 30s who was arrested at a property in Walton-on-Thames earlier today has been released on police bail while the investigation continues.
