Vandals destroy gardens at Bells Piece
‘Senseless’ vandals destroy a year's worth of harvest grown by disabled people at Bells Piece care home
The team at Bells Piece day centre in Farnham were left ‘shocked and heartbroken’ when they discovered their gardens had been trashed by vandals.
Bells Piece care home offers 24-hour support to adults with learning difficulties. Their horticulture project enables more than 30 disabled people to learn how to grow vegetables and prepare and cook nutritional meals that will help them lead a healthy life.
The vandals ripped out a year's worth of harvest grown by disabled people. Bells Piece are now asking for donations to help restore and protect the garden. They are fundraising to buy a security system that will stop this devastating vandalism happening again.
Money raised will also enable the team to replace tools and buy new crops and seeds. Just £5 could buy a replacement rhubarb plant or cut flower plant, while £10 could buy three bags of compost.
“This heartless act has left many of us in tears,” said a spokesperson. “It has been very upsetting for the disabled people who are part of Bells Piece. This project has been their lifeline and they get so much out of it. We all do. We are grateful for any donation to help us to continue this much-loved project.”
