Baroness van Dedem is generously opening her magnificent garden at Trumpeters' House to the public in aid of The Poppy Factory charity on Sunday May 22
"I have been given a cheque for £2,000 to make poppies with. It is a large responsibility and will be very difficult. If the experiment is successful it will be the start of an industry to employ 150 men. I do not think it can be a great success, but it is worth trying. I consider the attempt ought to be made if only to give the disabled their chance." Major George Howson MC, Founder of The Poppy Factory
Enjoy an afternoon ambling around the gardens of the historic Trumpeters' House in Richmond this Sunday. Baroness van Dedem has generously offered to open her magnificent garden, overlooking the Thames, in aid of local Richmond charity The Poppy Factory.
Sitting on the old Richmond Palace site, where Queen Elizabeth I spent her last days, interested members of the public can spend this Sunday being entertained by the Thameside Ladies Harmony Chorus a cappella group. Tea includes cakes donated by Hummingbird Bakery, Wholefoods and M&S Richmond, and there are stalls selling scarves, hand-made jewellery and natural beauty products. Surbiton Croquet Club will be inviting people to try their hand at golf croquet.
At a time of year, when gardens are looking at their most magnificent and, at the start of a week when the Chelsea Flower Show grabs the headlines, a stunning garden in Richmond will open its gates for one afternoon this Sunday to welcome and inspire creative people and for those who simply enjoy strolling around a beautifully laid out and attractive garden.
Liz George, Head of Fundraising at The Poppy Factory said, “Baroness van Dedem is once again generously opening her gates to allow visitors to view her magnificent garden and support our work helping wounded, injured and sick veterans back to work, wherever they live around the UK. Having served their country, we think these ex-Service men and women deserve our assistance and encouragement to give them a chance to improve their and their families' future, so that they feel a valued member of society again."
"The garden at Trumpeters' House, an oasis of calm nestled between the Thames and Richmond Green, is rarely open to the public, and we hope many people will join us for all or some of the afternoon this Sunday."
