2 year old Oscar Gillard has raised the most money so far!
Two year old toddler is charity’s highest fundraiser
Surrey Care Trust’s youngest supporter, Oscar Gillard (aged 2 on Friday 30 May) and his Mummy, Juliette, are calling on other toddlers, children, young people and their families to join them at Surrey’s first ever Sunset Cycle on July 5th.
Oscar is so far the highest fundraiser for the event, raising £268.75 in sponsorship with five weeks still to go. He and his parents are hoping that other ‘little people’ and their families join him on the three mile bike ride through the picturesque grounds of Alice Holt Forest. In fact, he will be using his second birthday party on Saturday to get some of his friends signed up.
Mum to Oscar and charity fundraiser, Juliette Gillard said: “Oscar is very lucky and has had a happy and secure first two years of his life. It is important that we instil the values of helping others less advantaged than him at an early age. We have talked about him taking part in the Sunset Cycle, riding on the back of Daddy’s bike, and he is really excited. He keeps pointing at his cycle helmet and saying Dada, Dada.”
“As well as helping people facing hardship, it looks like it is going to be a great family event, centred around fitness. And with a BBQ and other fun activities at the end, it is a great way to spend an evening as a family.”
Hosted at Alice Holt Forest in Farnham, on Saturday 5th July at 3.30pm, the cycle ride is open to all members of the public, including children, with two different routes: a gentle cycle trail enclosed within Alice Holt Forest, of three miles, perfect for families and cycling beginners; and a more challenging road route of 15 miles for those looking to go a bit further.
Sarah Pearce, the Event Organiser added: “Having the ride at sunset makes the event even more special and we want to encourage lots of people to take part, come and watch and volunteer on the day. We encourage families and people of all ages and backgrounds to get involved, regardless of cycling ability. If you can ride a bike, or sit on the back of one, you can enter!”
The event is being sponsored by HR consultancy, QCG. Alan Hurst, Managing Director at QCG said: “Surrey is generally regarded as home to the good life where all prosper – this is sadly not the case. We are delighted to support Surrey Care Trust in tackling disadvantage and hardship right across the County in a sustainable and practical way.”
Places are limited, with entrance fees starting at £5 for children and £12.50 for adults, or a family rate of £30. All money raised will go directly to charity.
