The Rural Life Centre in Tilford has been acknowledged for its amazing education work with the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service
A countryside museum that aims to educate the public about village life from 1750-1970, the Rural Life Centre relies heavily on the support of its dedicated volunteers, with only a small number of professional staff.
Together they run fun rural events like the upcoming Rustic Sunday listed in our July Guildford Magazine, curate a collection of fascinating pastoral artifacts, and educate visiting school and youth groups about the intricacies of country life in the past.
It's perhaps no surprise that they've been acknowledged with one of the most prestigious awards possible in their field - the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service, created to mark Queen Elizabeth II's Golden Jubilee as the volunteer-group equivalent of an MBE.
Chris Shepheard, the museum’s director, called the award "well deserved", saying that it would be "impossible for the museum to achieve its goals" without the support of its many volunteers.
