1. The Remakery
Multiple Locations
The Remarkery is a co-operative workshop space in a former underground car park between north Brixton and Camberwell that diverts valuable waste materials away from landfill and supports the local community in increasing their skills, confidence and employment opportunities. As well as providing workspace, The Remakery provides access to materials and tools, enabling local residents to create products, art and enterprises.
2. Recycle Western Riverside
Multiple Locations
Recycle Western Riverside is a campaign organised by Western Riverside Waste Authority to encourage residents in Wandsworth, Lambeth, Hammersmith & Fulham and Kensington & Chelsea to reduce, reuse and recycle by raising public awareness and making recycling easier. Smugglers Way Reuse and Recycling Centre in Wandsworth has a reuse workshop, run as a training centre for volunteer unemployed people, where hundreds of repairable items are fixed up and sold on. There’s also an education centre where children from local schools can see exactly what happens to their rubbish and recycling.
3. Little Village
Multiple Locations
Little Village collects good quality donations of clothes, toys, books and equipment for babies and children up to the age of five and then passes them on to local families who are most in need. All the items are donated by local families and distributed via a network of health visitors, midwives, children’s centres and local charities. With three hubs in Wandsworth, Camden and Southwark, Little Village is now one of the biggest baby banks in the UK.
