The Magna Carta's 800th anniversary is this weekend, and hundreds of vessels will follow the Queen's barge Gloriana in a regatta to Runnymede, where she will publicly commemorate the birth of the free world
We've got a round-up of the choicest Magna Carta 800 events around Surrey - but if you're looking to celebrate this historic event with a once-in-a-lifetime spectacle, look to the Thames. Hundreds of boats have signed up to accompany the Queen's Row Barge Gloriana, first commissioned for her 2012 Diamond Jubilee celebrations.
The royal regatta will proceed down the Thames on June 13-14 from Hurley to Runnymede Pleasure Grounds where the original document was signed by King John, carrying a replica of the Magna Carta and actors portraying historic figures from the event.
The Baron's Gathering Festival will take up June 13 at nearby Lammas Park, where the barons gathered before travelling to Runnymede. It's a day-long medieval festival jousting, combat displays, period dancing, falconry, ale tasting, children's activities and much more.
Finally, on June 15, VIPs from around the world will attend at Runnymede as the Queen commemorates the signing of the Great Charter - and the inception of our freedoms. The public will be able to watch on big screens at the pleasure grounds, and enjoy historic events and fun throughout the day.
