Inspired by a chance encounter with a spider, Shavy Makh, co-founder of the Be Kind Movement is collaborating with local Wandsworth businesses to produce ‘ITSY’, a short film on Kindness
After hosting several successful fundraising events in London, UK registered charity Be Kind Movement will produce a short film titled ITSY that was inspired by a true incident between Be Kind Movement’s co-founder, Shavy Makh, and a spider on his journey to work one summer. The film captures the touching human story that evolved between the two. “A tiny spider had stirred something within an adult, and the kindness shown towards this vulnerable creature, inspired our charity to produce this short film,” says Shavy.
“Fearing what we don't understand breeds prejudice and intolerance instead of compassion and kindness. If we can be kind and compassionate to animals, with whom we have very little in common, then why can’t we extend the same courtesy to each other as humans to create a peaceful and kind world? In times of violence and uncertainty, the message of ITSY is poignant and timely," concludes Producer Premila Puri and co-founder of the Be Kind Movement.
Support for ITSY and #KindnessMatters has come from local Wandsworth businesses including The Gutsy Chutney, a supper club, providing catering to the film crew and Ariana Ventures, a film production company providing film services pro-bono. The Film and Media Department at South Thames College in London will provide four media students to work closely with the production team across social media platforms to spread the message of Kindness.
As part of the charity’s Kindness ethos, the production will provide an opportunity for two young people from homeless backgrounds to work as a lyricist and a runner to gain practical work experience and mentoring. One of the young people, Laura Lartey, became homeless at the age of sixteen and slept on buses whilst schooling. She gained prominence when she was invited by Centrepoint to attend a gala attended by HRH Prince Charles. “I am here to remind the world of what they have forgotten, spread the love and bring back hope,” says Laura. Shooting late April, the film will launch at film festivals and online.
- The Charity is keen to collaborate with sponsors and partners to champion Kindness as it aims to raise £13000 to produce the film. More information can be found here: justgiving.com/charity/bekindmovement
