Bayley & Sage
With several branches in SW London, including Wimbledon Village and Chiswick, Bailey & Sage is a wonderful food shop, with everything from high-quality ready meals, to fantastic cheeses (with lots of samples available) and artisan breads. They are usually one of the first shops to stock specialist fresh fruit and vegetables, such as Ventoux cherries or English asparagus. Displays are always beautiful and the staff are friendly and helpful.

Cavan Bakery
Now run by the third generation of family bakers, Cavan has 10 branches in locations such as Teddington, Hampton Hill and Whitton. Founded in 1929, the bakeries focus on traditional products such as white bloomers, but also produces a wide range of speciality breads such as pumpkin seed rye and olive sourdough. It also operates a brisk trade in lunchtime sandwiches, using their own bread and speciality rolls, such as delicious, rosemary-scented focaccia.

Garsons Farm Shop
Garsons is a wonderful Pick-Your-Own farm just outside Esher, as well as having an abundant farm shop on site. Their in-store bakery turns out beautiful bread daily, but it is their fresh produce that really stands out. During growing seasons, expect to find produce on the shelves that had been picked that very morning. With a commitment to local produce, their booze selection includes gin from Thames Ditton and wine from Denbies in Dorking.

Natoora
To call Natoora a greengrocer is a misnomer. This fresh produce specialist on Turnham Green Terrace in Chiswick is focused solely on seasonal produce; you will never find peaches in their stores in December, for example. They know the origins of every single product they stock and their displays look like paintings. Prices are not low, but this reflects the incredible quality and care that goes into their stock. Pop in for a taster, as they always have something delicious to try.

Priory Farm Shop
A big supporter of local produce, Priory Farm Shop in Redhill is a brilliant place to stock up on cheese, bread, fresh vegetables and meat. The shop is famous for its sausages, made on-site by their butchers and always popular. They also have a good line of locally produced ales and beers, such as Hepworth and Hogs Back Brewery.

Sandys Fish
Sandys fishmongers is an institution in Twickenham. Established in 1997, they focus on fresh and sustainable fish, with a sideline in organic meat and game. They source fresh fish from UK suppliers wherever possible, but also stock fish from more exotic waters such as Swordfish from Sri Lanka. Staff are incredibly helpful, with interesting recipe suggestions and homemade sauces to purchase.

Secretts
Secretts farm and farm shop in Milford has been going since 1977. Their fresh produce section contains everything they grow on site, from cavolo nero to heritage carrots, as well as carefully selected items from outside the farm. The level of quality is amazing, with artisan breads from a local bakery and an on-site butcher. They have over 300 cheeses for sale and a committed ethos for local produce.

The Ginger Pig
Animal welfare and good husbandry is a main priority for The Ginger Pig butchers. Using a carefully selected range of small UK suppliers, they stock a wonderful range of meat and homemade pastries, including their legendary sausage rolls. Staff are passionate about their produce and genuinely care about the customer experience. Beef is a highlight; dry-aged in-house for a minimum of 28 days, this is the place if you are looking for a truly impressive rib of beef or beef forerib.

A relatively recent addition to Twickenham High Street, The Meat Room is a traditional butchers with a modern twist. With an impressive ageing room in the window, they specialise in ethically-sourced meat with a focus on supplying customers with both traditional and underused cuts. They have also just started butchery courses, which promise to appeal to beginners through to more expert customers.

The Teddington Cheese Shop
With another branch on Richmond Hill, Teddington Cheese is a small, but perfectly formed cheesemongers next to Teddington Station. With over 130 varieties of cheesy delights to choose from, staff are knowledgeable and happy to provide tasters until you find what you need. On the third Thursday of the month, the Richmond branch holds a Cheese Masterclass and the stores also offer a cheese wedding cake service. Make sure you pre-order for Christmas, as the queues trail out of the door and down the road every year.

Williams & Bunkell
Established since 1985, Williams and Bunkell is a wonderful fishmonger in Claygate. Products are carefully sourced from around British waters wherever possible. Justly famous for their smoked salmon, which they smoke, cure and slice themselves, they have won a Great Taste award for this amazing product three times.
