Catherine Whyte samples Petriti’s, the only local fine dining restaurant in the 2016 Good Food books...
Congratulations to Petriti’s in East Molesey which, after just one year in business, has scooped a 2016 Good Food Award.
Don’t let the trip discourage you from trying it out. Only a handful of restaurants in Surrey lay claim to the same commendation – indeed, there are only around 100 in the UK that can. So it’s a real coup.
The place is owned by husband and wife team Tom and Nargisa Petriti, who used to run The Ferry in Thames Ditton. Keen to spread his culinary wings – he has worked in Claridge’s and at Drake’s in Ripley – Tom fell in love with the kitchen at the East Molesey premises and the couple’s fine dining adventures began.
Indeed, the food was good. My starter of goats cheese, beetroot pannacotta, pine kernels, gaufrette potatoes, pesto crumble and watercress looked every bit as gorgeous as it tasted. My other half tucked into his main course of slow cooked belly of pork (crowned by a glorious tuft of crackling), truffle mash, compressed apples and sauce Bordelaise with glee. Pudding consisted of a raspberry soufflé partnered with poppy seed custard and a very tart upside down apple tart topped with ginger ice cream.
A la carte aside (mains £15-£19), there is a fantastic-looking six-course tasting menu for £49 (vegetarian version also offered). Not to mention lunch.
So, well done to the Petritis. They are delighted with the award, though I know for a fact that Tom is setting his sights even higher. Watch this space.
