Treat yourself to a feast with a takeaway from the Giggling Squid. Jane McGowan writes…
While Lockdown 3.0 continues to plod on, why not spice things up a little with a takeaway from the Giggling Squid.
The popular Thai-style eatery has venues across Surrey (Reigate, Guildford, Farnham and Esher), as well as South West London (Kingston, Wimbledon and Wandsworth), offering a wide selection of delicious dishes.
We were lucky enough to catch the Christmas click and collect offering, comprising an eclectic capsule menu featuring everything from Lotus Spoons (‘edible spoons stacked with fresh ingredients - sweet Thai radish, lotus root, white turmeric, chilli and lime cubes’) and Merry Muscles (‘plump, succulent mussels in a delicate green curry sauce with Thai shallots, crushed garlic, coriander, lime leaves and galangal’) to Five Spice Pork Cheeks and Green Goddess Hake.
We opted for a variety - Juicy Beef Skewers with Papaya Salad and Bags of Gold (Thai-spiced chicken parcels) to start and Joyous Red Duck and Beef in Coconut Sauce from the main menu that we tucked into ‘tapas’ style, sharing and sampling as we went.
Every mouthful seemed tastier than the last, with each dish offering myriad flavour combinations that brought plenty of warmth to a cold winter’s eve.
Once we had finished as much as we could – the portions are surprisingly filling for such delicate and well-presented dishes – we turned to our puddings.
Unfortunately, our first choice was unavailable, so we were supplied with two Melting Heart Chocolate Desserts, and I must say we were not disappointed.
These rich and sumptuous sponge desserts complete with molten chocolate are simply to die for – and the accompanying vanilla ice cream was just enough to cool the heat from the first two courses while elegantly complementing the final plate.
We all need a bit of warmth and cheer – even more so now the Christmas festivities seem like a distant memory – so I would highly recommend a Giggling Squid takeaway for anyone who is in need of a delicious and hearty pick-me-up.
We were given a collection time and the beautifully packaged food arrived in our hands incredibly promptly for what must have been a very busy pre-Christmas evening.
Once home, we discovered the produce was hale and hot – and there was no need to microwave to reheat.
So with Lockdown looking like it is here for the next month at least and Valentine’s Day looming, why not indulge a loved one in something truly special – they even sell cocktails and bubbles, so you can enjoy a stylish night out while staying in.
Main courses start from £10.50. For details about takeaway services in your area, visit: gigglingsquid.orderswift.com
