Famously featuring in rom-com 'The Holiday', this countryside pub is romantic with enormous character, situated amongst the traditional buildings of Shere. The Tilling Bourne river and the North Downs are both on the pub's doorstep, making it the perfect stop-off on an autumnal walk. The pub has an extensive menu, including a 'Mini pudding and hot drink' option - the perfect cosy treat in this homely pub.

The Skimmington Castle
Dating from the 17th century, The Skimmington Castle has real ales and perhaps the most impressive fireplace in the area. They welcome children of all ages and dogs (providing doggy snacks at the bar). As well as their main menu and Sunday menu the pub is great for vegetarians too, as they offer a separate vegetarian menu and daily vegetarian specials. Which means there really is something for everyone!

The Four Horseshoes
A pub with a dog-friendly bar which comes with "complimentary dog biscuits and a cuddle". The autumn menu and the impressive fireplace make this the perfect place to escape from the inevitable cold weather. Unusual for a lot of pubs, they also offer a Saturday brunch menu which changes weekly but always includes their classic TFH breakfast - their take on a full English. Cosiness and comfort food all day long - I'm on board.

A popular stop for many walkers, The White Bear is a little off the beaten track but incredibly picturesque - settled in the heart of the North Downs. The pub has three roaring fires warming it in the winter, with candle-lit tables making for a lovely ambience. It's heritage of being workers' cottages and a small end-of-terrace pub before the building merged and the pub took over, means that it is separated into a few small rooms, and the nooks and crannies give it a certain quirkiness.
