The Yehudi Menuhin School
Seven Sayings - Reunion Finale
Grounds will be open from 5pm. Programme includes: MacMillan Seven Last Words from the Cross | Pärt Fratres | Tchaikovsky Serenade for Strings with Sansara, Jonathan Bloxham and alumni of the Yehudi Menuhin School. The culmination of a year-long journey, our Finale will bring together our Senior Orchestra and Chamber Choir with one of the world’s most ground-breaking choirs, the Sansara vocal collective, for James MacMillan’s towering achievement: Seven Last Words from the Cross. A work of dramatic scope and extraordinary emotional depth – and a musical depiction of our entire season in microcosm. After an extended interval we will return with 12 of our cellists for the heart-wrenching beauty of Arvo Pärt’s Fratres. To finish an unforgettable year of events, we have taken to heart Tchaikovsky’s note in the score for his Serenade: ‘The larger number of players in the string orchestra, the more this shall be in accordance with the author’s wishes.' With this in mind, we will be delighted to welcome on stage alumni of the Menuhin School to play alongside our Senior Orchestra conducted by Jonathan Bloxham as we fulfil the last of the Seven Sayings in an evening of reunion. There will be a 60-minute interval, giving you plenty of time to enjoy a drink in our beautiful grounds.
