Emily's hello – Windsor, Ascot & Maidenhead Magazine, August 2016
Our local patch has produced its share of inspiring women. Martha Collison, for example, Berkshire’s baking star of print and screen (right). And then, of course, there is Theresa May: Maidenhead MP, Home Secretary for six long years and, now the UK’s second female prime minister.
Regardless of your politics, news that a woman is to lead the nation is reason enough for rejoicing, and we wish our MP well in this post-Brexit season, when calm and courage are the needs of the hour.
Meanwhile, read a Q&A with Mrs May from 2005 (here), when she still had time on her hands. We may never get the chance for such an informal interview again.
Until next month, Emily

FRESH TWIST
Meet a trailblazer of the younger generation: 19-year-old Martha Collison from Sunninghill, our cover interviewee, who found fame on Bake Off while still a pupil at Charters School. Going from strength to strength, she recently launched her debut recipe book and delighted tennis fans at Wimbledon with her bespoke afternoon teas. Emma Pritchard catches up with her (here).

MARTHA'S LOCAL LOVES
For dinner
I love eating out in Sunninghill. It has to be Rajvoog for curry and Jade Fountain for Chinese.
For shopping
For clothes it’s mainly Windsor – Zara, Top Shop and Cath Kidston are favourites. For baking, I go to Waitrose or a nearby Londis which is great for fresh fruit. I get tins from Lakeland and Sainsbury’s.
For coffee & cake
Treacle in Sunninghill is very special to me. Not only do they make delicious seasonal cakes, but it’s where I told my close friends that I was going on GBBO.
For relaxing
I go rock climbing with my sister Hannah in Reading and I love walking Alfie, my Labradoodle, around Virginia Water Lake and the Great Park.
