Tillingbourne runs by Shere, a dainty village that dates back to the ninth century, so no matter where you choose to lay your blanket the view will be scenic. If you rather an afternoon walk than a nap there are plenty of sights to see, such as the famous Silent Pool, a location that appears in folklore and that some consider to be a sacred site.

Bushy Park
Family Fun: Bushy Park, Hampton
Lying to the north of Hampton Court Palace, Bushy Park offers a children's playground, large sandpit and lots of wildlife to explore. The playground itself has a giant slide and roundabout and different sized climbing frames. Free events for children, including theatre and magic, are laid on during the week throughout the holidays.

Frensham Great Pond offers all the benefits of a trip to the seaside, without having to venture to the coast. Children can go for a paddle or build a sandcastle, while the café is great for grabbing an ice cream to enjoy whilst walking around the lake.

Richmond Park
Deer Spotting: Richmond Park, Richmond
Richmond Park was created in 1625 by King Charles I as a place to hunt deer. Today, up to 600 red and fallow deer remain in residence and it is the largest of the eight Royal Parks. These deer roam freely within the expansive parkland, providing a unique wildlife experience for visitors to the park.

Virginia Water
By the Water: Virginia Water Lake, Virginia Water
With a waterfall, a lake and stunning surrounding woodlands, Virginia Water offers visitors a wide variety of locations to picnic. The circuit around the lake is about 4.5 miles (7.2 km), about half is paved and the other half is a "natural" path both providing easy walking conditions even with a pushchair.

Thundry Meadows

Whether you choose to hire a rowing boat and gently glide through the water, or if you opt to walk alongside the river, Thundry Meadows should definitely be where you choose to stop for lunch. Located on the Southern bank of the River Wey near Elstead, Thundry Meadows is a site of Special Scientific Interest and is one of the few remaining wet meadow complexes left in the county.

Esher Common

Scenic Woodlands: Esher Commons, Esher
Covering an area of 360 hectares and running from Esher to Cobham, Oxshott to Westend, Esher commons are said to date back to Medieval times. With several ponds, open ground and woodland trails, Esher Commons allow visitors to spend hours, whether cycling or on foot, searching for the most picturesque spot to enjoy their lunch.

Afternoon Walks: Goldsworth Park, Woking
For a stroll around the lake followed by a laze in the sun, this recreational ground in Woking is ever popular with picnickers and walkers. The Southside of the park has less room for lunch, but more things to see and the park's woods remain popular amongst birdwatchers.
