Hidden Danger” is theme for 12th Hart Brown Economic Forum
With uncertainty over the outcome of June’s referendum affecting the outlook of Surrey firms, both within and outside the UK, it is appropriate that the theme for the 12th Hart Brown Annual Economic Forum is “Hidden Danger”.
The Hart Brown Economic Forum helps the owners and leaders of businesses in Surrey and beyond by setting and updating the context in which they operate. That context is partly a matter of how the economy is placed. Recently many and varied dangers have emerged nationally and internationally, which have and continue to have impact on our economy. Uncertainty over the impact of the European referendum is one. The Treasury speculates that “Trade barriers will be higher, hitting exports, and investment will be lower both within the UK and from abroad after an EU exit”. Manufacturing is falling in both in the UK and in the US, and China is seeing a slowdown in economic growth which will impact on the import/export market for British firms. Data leaks, continued security threats and a crackdown on tax evasion are all areas businesses should be looking at.
Using the theme “Hidden Danger”, the 2016 Forum speakers will present their views on what they see as the most significant dangers, what impact they foresee them having on business, and how to prepare for upcoming potential risks, based on their experiences in either running a business or, in the case of Vicky Pryce, as a leading economist. Discussions will be around whether these will be short-lived, or a permanent feature that we will all have to live with.
Vicky Pryce, an economist and international business consultant and on the board of the Centre for Economics and Business Research, will begin the Forum proceedings as the keynote speaker, with her perspective on the future.
An expert in cyber security, speaker Henry Pearson, Managing Director of Uniform Convergence Ltd, is accustomed to advising the Government and senior business leaders on this subject. He is well placed to help Surrey business leaders on this important and timely topic.
Jonathan Lucas Director of Elstead Lighting will be able to draw extensively on his experience in establishing an internationally successful company, to highlight the dangers he came across and how he coped with them.
Delegates will then have an opportunity to quiz the panel in a Q&A session.
The Hart Brown Economic Forum, run in association with the University of Surrey, will be held on the Tuesday 28th June 2016 at the University of Surrey, Rik Medlik Building, at 5:00pm. To register please
