This is a challenging 50 mile ride through rolling Surrey countryside that circumnavigates Guildford and whilst you could begin at any point on the circle, I think Ripley is a very nice place to start. There is no train station in Ripley but there is plenty of parking in the White Hart Meadows Car Park (just off Rose Lane).
Beginning at the junction of Rose Lane and the High Street, you head out on Rose Lane. After crossing over the A3, take the first left up Guileshill Lane and turn right at the T junction.
After only a few yards take the left fork at the War Memorial onto Ockham Lane and then turn right at the crossroads of the Black Swan pub onto Old Lane.
At the next T junction turn tight then immediately left onto Effingham Common Road. We now follow this road through Effingham, across the A246, up a long hill, and across Ranmore Common Road until, after a long descent with a very sharp bend (be careful!), you will reach the A25.

Cross the A25 to Raikes Lane and follow until the next T Junction where you turn left onto the B2126.
Eventually you pass through the picturesque village of Forest Green and the road morphs into the B2127 which you then follow to the roundabout in Ewhurst.
Turn left here through the village and follow the road to Cranleigh. Turn right at the roundabout and, after passing through the High Street, turn left at the next main roundabout sign-posted for Godalming (B2130).
Turn right then immediately left at the next T junction and follow the road till you a see a sign post to turn left to Godalming (just after a right hand bend).
We now stay on this road until we cross the railway at Milford and reach a T junction. Turn right then left at the roundabout. Just up on the right is Secretts Garden Centre where they make a nice coffee if you think you need one.
Otherwise continue on this road (A3100) until you reach the T junction and turn right. The next two roundabouts straddle the A3 so go straight over the first and then left at the second onto Elstead Road.
When you have passed the Golden Fleece pub and crossed the pretty River Wey, take the next right, Fulbrook Lane. A gentle leafy climb will take you up to the village of Puttenham where you turn right at the first T junction and left at the second.
After passing under the A31, take the left turn to Normandy down Wanborough Hill. Just when you beginning to slow from the descent take a right turn sign-posted for Normandy. Go straight over the crossroads and then turn right at the T junction onto the A324.
Just after the Royal Oak pub turn right into Ash Road and then right again at the next T junction. After The Fox pub go straight on up Berry Lane – it is sign-posted as a dead end but bear with me, you’re on a bicycle. At the end of the road, go straight over the busy Bagshot Road into the rest of Berry Lane.
Follow this road to a couple of roundabouts – straight over the first, then first exit at the second onto the B380.
At the next roundabout take the second exit. When you see The New Inn at Send (just after you’ve crossed the River Wey again), start to look for a used car sales garage on the left (opposite the park) and turn left immediately after into Tannery Lane.
Follow the lane till the end and turn right at the T junction – turn left at the end and you’ll be nicely back to the beginning; Ripley High Street where they also make a lovely coffee in The Bakery cafe on the corner of Rose Lane.
